On August 7, 2025, the second- and third-year students of Negros Maritime College Foundation, Inc. (NMCFI) took part in their Donning of Shoulder Board Ceremony at the Negros Oriental Convention Center, one of the highlights of the school’s 31st Founding Anniversary Celebration.
Recognized as “one of the most symbolic rites in a cadet’s journey,” the ceremony was attended by parents, guardians, faculty, and staff, and was graced by Negros Oriental Governor Chaco Sagabarria and guest speaker C/E Mark S. Concepcion.
In a moving moment, parents placed the shoulder boards on their sons and daughters — a gesture described by NMCFI President Dr. Zeth Dela Cruz as a “passing of responsibility, discipline, and leadership” and “the start of a deeper commitment to the maritime path.” In his address, C/E Concepcion delivered an inspirational message that deepened the cadets’ appreciation of their chosen profession and future service.
The program was preceded by a eucharistic mass and a tribute to the college’s founder, the late Capt. Edith A. Vera, PCGA, honoring her legacy in shaping generations of maritime professionals.
